Our mission is to assist young men in building character and integrity within themselves.
For young men who are at a crossroads in their life or need a more challenging school, Valor Military Academy will help them to regain their confidence and their desire to succeed. Along with small class sizes, and mentoring programs, we assist and encourage our young men to become leaders in their community.
The definition of Valor, as read in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is as follows:
"strength of mind or spirit that enables a person to encounter danger with firmness : personal bravery"In light of the social, cultural and political changes in todays modern world. young men, especially minorities, are having to battle the challenges of life on a much more dangerous level, many times at the risk of losing their lives. Poverty, crime and the proliferation of drugs in impoverished communities have made success much harder to attain, forcing our young men to choose other more volatile, avenues of survival.
With the statistics of the Obama Administration,, the President has begun an initiative program called "My Brother's Keeper" based on 52% of young men in urban area overall graduating, but only 20% in the Detroit area.
On March 9, 2014, the Detroit Free Press reported that the rate of urban males being involved in homicide/violent crime or incarcerated is 13 times higher than any other cultural group of the same demographic.
These are just a few of the statistics that were pulled to see why this academy is so important to our young men. According to www.city-date.com, Detroit ranks 6th out of the top 101 cities for single mothers raising children. After speaking with numerous parents, especially single mothers, they overwhelmingly agreed it would be an enormous help and an asset to the community.
Having the support of military veterans, the Tuskegee Airmen and many more parents, teachers and community leaders, we are excited and ready to help build these young men up with honor, respect and valor while also building a community in an area that has been impoverished for over 20 years.
